2019 Cincinnati Masters Odds & Picks: Djokovic Favored to Repeat

We are likely to find a star-studded field at the 2019 Western & Southern Open as a number of the largest names will be on hand. On the men’s side, we will see No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic and No. 3 Roger Federer. For Federer and Djokovic, it is our very first look at them because Wimbledon. Is a good bet here?
*Odds taken August 12, 2019
Djokovic is the defending champion at this occasion since he beat Roger Federer in the 2018 final 6-4, 6-4. Shockingly, it was his very first name in this time, that is surprising since he has been in the last six occasions in total.
The issue is that Djokovic hasn’t exactly thrived here of late. Yeshe got the win from 2018 but had been absent at each of the 2 decades before, then he lost in the last, dropped in the third round and lost in the quarters in each of the three previous decades. In general, his album is simply 32-11 at this championship. He is tied by the 11 declines to get the most at any ATP 1000 tournament.
At exactly precisely the same time, nobody is playing better than him on the hard courts at the moment. He’s 33-3 on hard courts because the beginning of 2018 (not like indoor). He is the player to conquer here.
There aren’t many threats that are serious here. Dominic Thiem is the No. 4 seed but he’s a clay-court specialist. Stefanos Tsitsipas is really a pesky 20-year-old with a shot but a reduction to Nick Kyrgios from the semis at the Citi Open and also to Hubert Hurkacz within his very first match at the Rogers Cup suggests he is not a real threat.
Then there is Kei Nishikori, who also lost in his first game in the Rogers Cup, Alex Zverev, who is much better on clay, and Karen Kachanov, who is just 18-17 on the year.
From the more shots, even a player like Kevin Anderson is really capable of surprising because he performs well on hard courts but he’s been hurt all year. Marin Cilic is a choice but he about the year. Who is there to bet in this tournament than the Big Three?
This is a key tune-up for the U.S. Open later this month, so I’m expecting Djokovic’s’A’ game here. He has been off since Wimbledon and ought to be fresh.
Federer is a choice as he has won the event seven days but he is better on grass than hard courts. He’s 29-5 in his past 34 on the hard courts; he’s 11-1 in his last 12 on bud.
With Nadal pulling out of the competition after only winning the Rogers Cup on the weekend, so making this tournament Djokovic’s to lose in my books.
Let’s keep it civil and have fun.
